BONE GRAFT AND MEMBRANE

The Dental Bone Graft Procedure is utilized in dentistry to augment the volume of bone in the jaw, providing support for dental implants. This procedure is necessary when there is insufficient healthy natural bone to securely hold the implants. Bone grafting material, which can be derived from synthetic sources, serves as a foundation for new bone growth, ensuring the implant is securely anchored. The success of dental bone grafting relies on various factors, including the type of graft used, and the patient's overall health and healing ability. Dental bone grafting can be performed as a standalone procedure or alongside other dental treatments such as implant placement or jaw reconstruction.

PROCEDURE

The Dental Bone Graft Procedure is employed to fill an empty tooth socket. There are various types of bone grafts available, including both natural and synthetic options. One of the most commonly used grafts is ceramic-based, which contains calcium phosphate and sulfate. For optimal results, these can be combined with polymer-based degradable bone grafts or other materials.

TYPES OF MEMBRANE
  • Resorbable Membranes: Made from proteins and collagen, these membranes are considered safer to use as they do not require a second surgical procedure for removal.
  • Non-resorbable Membranes: Constructed from titanium or PTFE, these membranes offer the most predictable results for bone generation. However, they need to be removed in a subsequent procedure.

Why do I need to do this treatment?

Missing bone can lead to soft tissue defects and empty pockets, complicating future dental treatments. A healthy jawbone structure is crucial for achieving optimal outcomes in procedures like implants. Bone loss weakens the jaw and can cause horizontal loss, potentially damaging other teeth. These issues often arise from tooth extractions, trauma, or car accidents, making it essential to correct the jawbone shape and promote healing to maintain proper function for eating and speaking.
